Life returns to a new normal
Bookings are now open for Foyle Sailability’s regatta at Greencastle, Co. Donegal on Tuesday 7th June. Event co-ordinator Karen McCormick says sailing will be from 11am-3pm, weather permitting!
“This event is open to people with disabilities from across the north west, but advance booking is essential. We will have dinghies, canoes and passenger boats on the day so there will be something to suit everyone,” says Karen.
FS Chairperson Cathal MacElhatton says the regatta is also being staged “to mark our participation in the St Kilda Challenge race in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides on 10th June. Foyle Sailability is sending 2 yachts to participate in the race, which is organised by Comann na Mara (Society of the Sea). Yachts Dream Machine and Kind of Blue - skippered and crewed by Foyle Sailability volunteers - are taking part in the St Kilda Challenge to raise awareness of Foyle Sailability.”
“We’ll be sending them on their way on the morning of 8th June from Greencastle, and our participation in this event is funded by MalinWaters. St Kilda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and protected by the National Trust, which makes this a singular and unique event.
Joy Harron, Marine Tourism Marketing & Development Officer with MalinWaters said their support “is in keeping with the commitment from project partners to nurturing the development of marine and coastal activity in the MalinWaters regions; in particular to encourage the development of marine leisure activities as inclusive for persons with disabilities, their families and carers. MalinWaters wish all those taking part the very best of luck and we look forward to many more annual Sailability events!”
